Meeting Time!

considering that the first evaluations are up (GSoC 2020) I presume every student wants to report what they did last week :)

everybody else interested in reporting progress or any other news, please let me know as well

so as the first phase is almost over now and my major task for this was to flash firmware on pic16s using pic32

to receive/send data from host via USB, BL has some methods send/receive methods which i tested last week, then i created a method called ProcessCommand() which processes the string commands received from the host and takes action accordingly

it'll be done in the next days (if i don't encounter any other obstacle)

i really did not expect it to take a whole week but here we are

but nothing seemed to work...I and Bertl then prepared and compared debug messages from my driver and the script and most relevant things were matching

we are not sure yet why an uncompressed still worked with the scripts

more on that later :)

but as Bertl suggested the scripts could have 'accidentally' worked due to various reasons...nd hence no point in me trying to recreate that 'accident'...

so now my task is to try the same with my driver using compressed bitstream and hope it works...

when programming the flash memory in the MachXO2

and most likely, the config flash simply contains the compressed image as well with some padding

(should be easy to verify)

Yes, it was required to disable the LUTs, the script available for that was axiom_linear_conf.sh but it did not work, so Bertl helped me in resolving that and a new scipt named axiom_linear_identity.sh was made. The values in the LUTs needed to be the address values shifted left by four.

so to clarify, as this might be interesting for other parties as well:

and it was kind of assumed, that the default would be a 1:1 mapping (identity) for those LUTs

turns out that the default is basically a -1/16th offset to the identity

the new axiom_linear_identity.sh works around this by setting the proper LUT values for a 1:1 mapping

he issues are that this emulator is developed with the older eMMC protocol standard, so it's not suitable to test data transmission with higher frequencies.

Now I'm considering if it's reasonable to try updating this emulator to work with higher speeds

however, I finally rebased the PR that integrated the control daemon and the webui with fw 2.x

So after some final tests that is ready to get merged

Also I started working on a way to make it possible to always boot a know working ("golden") version of the firmware

This is going to use a btrfs subvolume for the golden root filesystem and make all user modifications go into a snapshot of that

also fw2.x now buils a static btrfs-progs and busybox

panintended reported that there have been no significant updates since last week

se6ast1an also reports that the Hub Beta is oeprational again and the weird artefacts are no more

now I was mostly busy with preparations for GSoC2020 first evaluations as you can imagine

first test images have been acquired (will make some available over the next days) and data analysis has already begun
