hi xeechou!
08:17
atoav
Hi
08:18
atoav
I am looking into the audio extension and asked myself what kind of busses would exist in the module system
08:20
atoav
This boils down to two questions:
08:20
atoav
1. What power rails/voltages does the axiom supply?
08:21
atoav
2. Is there any bus that could be used to transfer the ADC converted audio streams?
08:22
atoav
If somebody has a good idea of those things, please append to this thread: https://lab.apertus.org/T361
08:44
se6astian
There are multiple options
08:45
se6astian
for audio a shield would be most suitable
08:45
se6astian
Bertl: can share the technical details
08:48
atoav
Cool
08:52
Bertl
the shields are connected directly to the routing fabrics with 2x10 GPIOs and 4 LVDS pairs
08:53
Bertl
there are two power rails for each shield, one is the IO voltage and the other can be used for powering electronics on the shields (typically 3.3V)
08:58
atoav
Bertl, thanks! for high quality preamps 3.3V is too little, we will have to bake our own for the audio shield (which is the better choice for running sensetive ADCs maybe anyways).
08:58
atoav
What is the IO voltage?
08:58
Bertl
2.5V typically
09:00
Bertl
btw, I wouldn't put a high quality preamp on the shield, there is a lot going on in the direct vicinity, so it probably will pick up a lot of switching noise
09:01
Bertl
i.e. probably better to put the audio part into a separate and shielded enclosure
09:01
atoav
Thought so. Mhhh It would require at least ±5V, and +48V for phantom powering the microphones
09:02
Bertl
all those voltages will have to be generated, unless you want to go with a separate set of batteries as well
09:03
Bertl
but I don't think that you will need much power there, so that should be fine
09:04
atoav
I think a seperate set of batteries should be avoided from a user perspective
09:08
Bertl
the question I was asking myself is: who would be the target audience for a high quality audio recording solution embedded into the AXIOM Beta?
09:08
Bertl
because I presume that when high quality is a requirement, there will be a separate audio crew and separate recording devices anyway
09:09
Bertl
while OTOH, when we are talking the typical indie movie maker, the question remains: does it need to be that high end?
09:12
Bertl
btw, the ODAC link is for audio output
09:15
atoav
With the ODAC ytou're right, was my fault. I would focus on documentary style filmmakers, they are the ones where at least 2 XLR inputs on Camera would make sense. At least my documentary collegues are most of the times very happy about having it
09:15
Bertl
XLR is huge compared to the AXIOM Beta (and the Shields)
09:16
Bertl
so you need a separate 'plug-box' anyway
09:16
atoav
Aha, I was thinking about a dedicated module anyways
09:17
atoav
mhh
09:17
Bertl
I would go to pure digital in that box, maybe input and output if you like to use headphones or similar
09:17
Bertl
then stamp and CRC/ECC the data and send it over a simple serial link to the Beta (e.g. via one of the existing shields)
09:18
atoav
exactly that was the idea. To have a box/module, that just spits out digital audio streams for the axiom
09:18
atoav
maybe a headphone output
09:18
atoav
maybe embedded cheap cardoids for syncing when no external mics are used
09:20
atoav
I am not that fit with stepping and inverting powersupplies though, where I come from linear powersupplies are used

I'm sure that Linear, TI, AnalogDevices and others provide solutions for low noise audio power rails
09:26
Bertl
so it is more searching for the right part
09:26
comradekingu
http://www.beis.de/Elektronik/Electronics.html has some solutions
09:27
comradekingu
that come schematics supplied
09:28
atoav
comradekingu. cool stuff
09:28
comradekingu
skimming backlog i know there are some sheild type things for i2c and whatnot, from elsewhere
09:29
comradekingu
https://www.thomann.de/gb/mytek_digital_stereo_192_adc.htm looks to have DC power
09:31
comradekingu
But it would be a phantom power box, and another one afterwards
09:31
atoav
Bertl, right. I think I need to reconsider the whole specification thing. I somehow thought this could be a Gamma Module but to be honest, I have no idea what would integrate best with the current designs
09:57

Hi xeechou
14:40
xeechou
Hi
14:42
BAndiT1983
So, what are your questions? I'm on my mobile, because not at home, but can still reply
14:44
xeechou
OCLauncher is the right application to open?
14:45
BAndiT1983
At the moment no, OC backup or processing test are more advanced
14:45
BAndiT1983
You should try to load a DNG file in processing test
14:45
BAndiT1983
I deactivated DNG in ocbackup because of some tests
14:46
xeechou
It takes arguments?
14:46
xeechou
The program ProcessingTree?
14:46
BAndiT1983
No, all applications start without
14:47
BAndiT1983
But look into processing presenter class to see loading routines for images
14:50
xeechou
Yeah, from the output of program, it seems to try to load /media/Andi/OC_TEST_DISK2/darklab.mov
14:51
BAndiT1983
It is a test for video player in backup
14:51
BAndiT1983
Take processing test as base for now
14:52
BAndiT1983
Test files can be found here https://www.apertus.org/de/node/439
14:53
BAndiT1983
DNG are important for now
14:54
xeechou
Oh, btw, I cloned the main branch, I am not sure if we are talking about the same branch
14:55
BAndiT1983
Yes, Master was updated to the state of dev branch
14:55
BAndiT1983
I wasn't doing anything yet, as gsoc was approaching so I waited
15:01
xeechou
Okay, I need to leave a bit now, trying dng files before coming back

Roopal08 - If you have specific questions the best idea is to ask them as the chat logs are routinely checked.
