anything about beta that deviates from the typical normal hard development. any major breakthroughs changes or setbacks

in particular

00:50
Bertl
we finalized the first batch of PCBs (going to be ordered tomorrow)
00:50
Bertl
we have arch running on the MicroZed in our setup
00:51
Bertl
no setbacks at the moment
00:51
aombk
great news!
00:51
aombk
so its settled? microzed?
00:52
Bertl
microzed will definitely be the base platform for the Beta, yes. We also plan to support Parallella and PicoZed though, just not as primary
00:53
aombk
what pcbs are ready? all of them?
00:53
Bertl
for several reasons, for example we do not have a PicoZed yet and the parallella has not enough I/Os for big sensors
00:54
Bertl
aren't you subscribed to axiom-dev? :)
00:56
aombk
i am but the latest mail i fot was 9 days ago
00:56
aombk
how do you like arch so far?
00:59
Q_
joined the channel
00:59
Bertl
well, I suggested it in the first place, so I'm fine with it
00:59
Bertl
it works reasonably well on the zynq (so far) some minor config issues but nothing critical
00:59
Bertl
we still have to trim it down to the essentials
01:02
aombk
i use arch and i am very pleased with it. you get any help from any arch devs? do they know of your plan to use it for the beta?
01:02
Bertl
not yet, no
01:03
aombk
you want it this way?
01:03
aombk
or prefer it?
01:04
Bertl
no preference either way
01:04
Bertl
if somebody from the arch community is interested in the Beta, then s/he is very welcome to join/help of course
01:05
Bertl
as long as we don't encounter arch specific issues, we probably won't bother them though

hey!
08:54
surami
somebody has any information, that what type of PCIe (slot, lane) will be used for 4K RAW PC recording (http://lab.apertus.org/T136)
08:59
surami
i'm think now in Jetson TK1 direction
09:05
surami
http://elinux.org/Jetson_TK1
09:06
surami
+ a PE4L-PM060A PCIe Adapter ver2.1: http://www.hwtools.net/PCIe.html
09:07
surami
+ a SATA SSD
09:09
surami
or is this fully wrong direction?
09:23
surami
Jetson TK1 SATA?: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/774120/jetson-tk1-sata3-support/
09:26
surami
Jetson TK1 Mini PCIe? https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/763037/-jetson-tk1-mini-pci-express-version-/

09:54
FransKanters
drawback of the miniPCIe of the TK1 is that it only supports gen2x1 (max 5Gbit/s)
09:55
FransKanters
The chip itself can do more, but it is not connected in the Jetson board
09:55
FransKanters
Would be interesting to build a custom board with the K1, several SATA connections and PCIe gen2 x 4
09:56
FransKanters
Probably the minimum order quantity of the K1 is a bit too high...:-(
10:06
surami
it's not advertisement, but here i see 5 per customer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813190005
10:08
surami
well i'm not an engineer, so i can't build this system i only "see" this: Beta -> PCIe -> maybe PCIe to mPCIe -> SATA or USB 3.0
10:10
surami
5 Gbit/s = 625 MB so it would be enough bandwith for 4K RAW @ ~24-25 fps (counted with ~20-25 MB/frame)
10:13
surami
so if could find 5 people who would ki to invest around 200 bucks, then it could work...
10:17
surami
i counted the framesize from here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=11787.msg130483#msg130483
10:18
surami
it's a full size alpha frame

10:24
Bertl
morning folks!
10:33
FransKanters
I actually meant buying the separate NVidia Tegra K1 chips and build a custom board, not using the Jetson board.
10:34
FransKanters
With the Jetson you could probably reach 4k RAW at 24-25 fps. We are looking for 120fps, so that is why we need 4x PCIe...
10:37
FransKanters
The schematics of the jetson board are online, so it should be doable to develop a custom board. Note that in the schematics there is room for PCIe x4 but it is not connected in the Jetson board.
10:38
FransKanters
It is definitely a very interesting chip for image analysis!
10:38
FransKanters
Bertl, have you already looked at the Tegra K1?
10:40
Bertl
not at all, but nvidia hasn't been great in "open technology" so far
10:43
Bertl
looks like a quad core cortex A15 chip with some "proprietary" features (at first glance)
10:52
Bertl
surami: it will require at least PCIe x2/4 to capture the data from the Beta
10:53
Bertl
as x2 is not really "official" the slot will have to fit x4

Bertl: read the last post here, "TK1 itself and custom PCBs can support PCIe gen2 x4 (2000 MB/s)" https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/773222/tegra-k1-and-fpga-link/

but i don't know nothing about its openness

and i found a project where Nvidia Tegra K1, Xilinx Ultrascale and CMOSIS CMV12000 is used: http://nexvision.fr/portfolio/maestro-4k-video-camera/
