It's not obvious in the photo, but I placed two storage units in there, each with a pair of ssd drives

for cinema use it's unlikely to be critical, but that would allow for redundant recording/swapping while still recording

Might it work better if the drive bays are vertical, with each drive inserted from the top? Then gravity will naturally hold them in place alongside whatever kind of system we may decide to use to fix the storage drives firmly in place here

or a rail and pin system

it should either be vertical, from behind, or from the right side of the camera

in a single person setup, the operator should be able to use the viewfinder and controls in the handle to fulfill the same functions.

Taking a step back for just a moment... I think it's a great idea to be thinking about a case system for mounting all of the axiom components, which is what we're doing. But I also love the idea of being able to connect the components together like in this image: https://www.apertus.org/sites/default/files/axiom-modules-06.jpg. Do you foresee problems with connecting the parts together like this?

(of course I still do want that tiny little brain module so moco rigs can be smaller and cheaper

I'll bet you could make a realtime moco rig for a lot less if it only had to support like a couple kilograms
