codetronaut
the "usb module gearwork" under FPGA/HDL is the one.
18:38
codetronaut
@Bertl_oO
18:38
Bertl_oO
so you are good at coding HDL?
18:41
codetronaut
@Bertl_oO, currently i only know c/c++, python, shell but i will definitely learn HDL very fast.
18:41
codetronaut
just need little guidance
18:42
Bertl_oO
okay, then I guess the best start is to do some HDL examples
18:42
Bertl_oO
e.g. the challenge tasks listed for HDL
18:43
Bertl_oO
https://lab.apertus.org/T871
18:43
Bertl_oO
best do those with Xilinx Vivado (recent version) and Lattice Diamond to get a feel for the tools and the language
18:45
codetronaut
it's showing it's a part of GSoc19
18:46
Bertl_oO
yes, those challenge tasks were part of GSoC 2019
18:51
codetronaut
do i need different environment to start learning these as i am an 2nd year undergradute in pure software and these are new to me
18:52
Bertl_oO
not sure what your current environment is, but I would suggest to go with a Linux Distribution, preferably one which is well supported
18:52
codetronaut
i currently use debian buster with modded kernel 5.x
18:53
Bertl_oO
that should be fine
18:55
Bertl_oO
for Vivado, you want to get the Web License
18:55
Bertl_oO
for Diamond there is a free license as well, target hardware there is the MachXO2
18:55
Bertl_oO
(for Xilinx it is a Zynq 7020)
18:59

Welcome to the community codetronaut. Pleased you made it.

codetronaut
Thank you @RexOrCine :)
19:04
RexOrCine
How did you find out about the project?
19:06
codetronaut
i am currently in undergraduate school in india an doing data structures and all stuff but embedded systems and hardware related things excites me.
19:06
codetronaut
and after searching found apertus
19:06
RexOrCine
Brilliant.
19:08
codetronaut
one thing...the versions that @Bertl_oO mentioned..so what do you think i should start with
19:08
RexOrCine
Good place to keep up with things is https://t.me/apertus
19:09
RexOrCine
No idea my friend, that's not my area at all, I don't code.
19:10
codetronaut
okay
19:11
codetronaut
i would say this community is very welcoming :)
19:11
RexOrCine
Will you do GSoC next year?
19:12
codetronaut
i am not sure because i think gsoc requires experienced peoples.
19:13
codetronaut
i have very low experience but i am ready to learn anything anytime.
19:13
RexOrCine
Generally participants are students like yourself. But getting involved now is an excellent way to increase chances of being accepted.
19:16
codetronaut
I would definitely try my best in contributing rest will see :)
