Bertl: what's a "mo", that there were "none left"?
16:34
Bertl
I guess it must be something similar to a bug :)
16:35
Bertl
it was a joke based on se6astian's statement that we de-mo-ed the axiom alpha
16:44
djp
ahhh.. INSIDE joke ;-)
16:45
djp
any vimeo (or similar) clips available of the alpha producing video?
16:45
djp
(unrelated question) any crossover between digital bolex devs and axiom devs?
16:46
Bertl
I'm not sure there is anything yet, but I'm sure there will be some direct and indirect footage in the next few days
16:47
Bertl
the trip to Berlin was quite productive on the axiom alpha side, as we ironed out a number of simple bugs and did the first long time testing
16:47
Bertl
i.e. it was running all the day with live output over HDMI
16:47
djp
awesome!
16:48
Bertl
regarding digital bolex: no, not yet, not sure where the crossover would happen though, I don't think they are open source or open hardware no?
16:49
djp
I think they ARE "open" (as in "source")
16:49
djp
and they're SHIPPING!
16:50
djp
the actual hardware is being made here in Toronto, I'm hoping to pay them a visit soon
16:52
Bertl
well, if you have some insights or pointers to the source, i'd like to check it out to see if there are any overlaps\
16:53
Bertl
all I saw so far was 'software will be available on the mac first, windows later' (but that's not the camera software anyway)
16:53
djp
hrmm.. now that I'm poking around, I'm not seeing a lot of "openness"..
16:54
djp
but I'm still gonna try and get close, and when I do, I'll grill them about it ;-)
16:55
Bertl
yeah, but maybe they are just lazy - the download page doesn't even have links yet - but keep us updated, we're always interested in exchange of ideas and/or experience
16:55
djp
I far prefer the Axiom approach, both physical, modular design, and 100% open
16:56
Bertl
and IIRC, they are somewhat interested in axiom as well, at least I think I remember that rubinstein commented at least once on our work
16:57
djp
but the idea that a small group can produce a desirable cinema camera, is inspiring. If both projects subscribe to the notion of open hardware/ software, there should be sharing :)
18:56
Bertl
agreed (sorry for the delay), so keep us updated on the 'openness' of the digital bolex
19:52
