Hello there ! for timecode, it would be really cool to provide some additional features, like emit timecode somehow from the camera (or another box) and have several receivers to output it back to various devices.

good evening
14:27
comradekingu
today i learnt that sony x200 camera has two zebra patterns, one default at 70% +-10% that you can set, and another that is everything above 100% that you cant set. and then you can also show them both at once
14:28
comradekingu
And if there is a preconfigured BBC setup available thats really nice
14:32
intracube
comradekingu: BBC setup?
14:33
comradekingu
yes, bbc often releases setups where all their levels are at reference
14:33
intracube
you mean like gamma/knee/saturation/etc?
14:33
comradekingu
and its a set of standards, but each camera has profiles, so they often have one for each pro-camera
14:33
comradekingu
yes
14:33
comradekingu
and sound-levels
14:33
intracube
gotcha
14:34
comradekingu
each video-person has his own settings too, on a uSD card
14:34
comradekingu
But first i would make the setup really intuitive, something these cameras often are not
14:35
intracube
comradekingu: I take it you film professionally?
14:35
comradekingu
and also where cables are inserted, nothing must be in the way there, so allow for a bigger cable
14:36
comradekingu
intracube: i work at the technical storage for the national broadcaster
14:36
intracube
ah, I think I remember you saying that
14:37
intracube
do broadcasters usually have rules for the lenses allowed?
14:38
intracube
like only allow specific models of lenses?
14:38
comradekingu
We have anything from default zooms to colour-gray stuff with handles, different people have different equipment
14:39
comradekingu
If you can lose the lens cap, visor, and ideally park it without powering off the stabilization, it will happen.
14:40
comradekingu
And up untill now nothing has been marked, or had old marking, which can also fall off if you are unlucky
14:40
intracube
?
14:40
se6astian
comradekingu: how are the two different zebra levels visualized?
14:41
comradekingu
just gray and white stripes covering the area that is in range, i can take a picture of it if you want
14:42
comradekingu
One thing that would be nice is naming the camera in the menu, so you know its camera 3 for example
14:42
intracube
doesn't understand :)
14:42
comradekingu
what didnt you understand?
14:42
intracube
"<comradekingu> If you can lose the lens cap, visor, and ideally park it without powering off the stabilization, it will happen."
14:42
intracube
what will happen?
14:43
intracube
and "And up untill now nothing has been marked, or had old marking, which can also fall off if you are unlucky"
14:43
comradekingu
all equipment that have a potential of seeing misuse, will be misused
14:43
comradekingu
if it can break, it will suprise me more if it isnt in a broken or semi-broken state
14:44
intracube
the BBC's guidelines have info about minimum requirements for the cameras themselves; eg, digibeta for SD, HDCAM for HD
14:44
comradekingu
Make everything sturdy, because people want their stuff to work right when they want to use it normally
14:44
intracube
but I couldn't see info about the types of lenses permitted
14:44
intracube
and lens quality can vary a heck of a lot :)
14:44
comradekingu
i dont think there is a limit on the lenses
14:45
intracube
interesting
14:45
comradekingu
obviously its not junk, but the lenses hold up really well.
14:46
comradekingu
Re-usable lenses would be really nice, because a lot of the old cameras just get put out of comission with usable lenses on
14:47
comradekingu
Right now its 1080i for TV, and often 4k for web, so depending on if the material has value far into the future, the quality of the gear that is used goes up
14:48
comradekingu
News-reporting from studio in small places has the lowest priority, sometimes even shot in SD
14:49
comradekingu
The worst stuff we have is gopro 3+, used for convenient angles and risky things.
15:04
intracube
comradekingu: yep, I noticed the BBC use ENG/portable cameras + lenses for their HD news programmes
15:04
intracube
instead of studio cameras with box lenses
