| 20:02 | Bertl | welcome PipeManMusic!
| 20:09 | se6astian1 | hey there!
| 20:24 | PipeManMusic | I've checked into this project from time to time.
| 20:24 | PipeManMusic | Just doing another checkup to see how things are going.
| 20:30 | Bertl | and? what's the result? :)
| 20:30 | PipeManMusic | Well, I had a hard time gleaning enough from the website so I came here.
| 20:30 | PipeManMusic | I see the prototype.
| 20:31 | Bertl | okay, good start ... anything you want to know in more detail?
| 20:31 | PipeManMusic | The all important when and how much. :)
| 20:31 | PipeManMusic | I'm sure the two hardest to answer.
| 20:32 | Bertl | I think the how much is not that important ... we don't want to compete with low price discounter and companies trying to fill the market with cheap gadgets
| 20:33 | Bertl | we will have solutions for a small budget as well as for a high budget
| 20:33 | PipeManMusic | Sure.
| 20:33 | Bertl | (this comes with the modularity)
| 20:33 | PipeManMusic | I understand.
| 20:33 | Bertl | for the when, it really depends on what you want
| 20:33 | PipeManMusic | I was more wondering ballpark range.
| 20:34 | Bertl | our goal is still well below 10k USD
| 20:34 | Bertl | (for the 4k version that is)
| 20:34 | PipeManMusic | For the complete setup?
| 20:34 | PipeManMusic | Or the base camera?
| 20:34 | Bertl | base camera, we'll see what it will include
| 20:34 | Bertl | the 'complete setup' is open ended
| 20:35 | PipeManMusic | Sure.
| 20:35 | PipeManMusic | I'm not a professional film maker.
| 20:35 | PipeManMusic | I a guy with a ton of stuff to film.
| 20:36 | PipeManMusic | And a lover of FLOSS both hardware and software.
| 20:36 | Bertl | so maybe you will be happy with 2k instead of 4k
| 20:36 | PipeManMusic | Yes.
| 20:36 | Bertl | which probably will reduce the price significantly
| 20:36 | PipeManMusic | OK.
| 20:37 | Bertl | the sensor we are currently using alone costs almost 2k USD
| 20:37 | PipeManMusic | I actually come from the audio world.
| 20:37 | Bertl | and there are other sensors for way less with reasonable quality
| 20:37 | Bertl | so maybe you are interested in contributing on audio then?
| 20:38 | PipeManMusic | Yes.
| 20:38 | PipeManMusic | I'm very limited on time.
| 20:38 | PipeManMusic | But I'm always willing to contribute what I can.
| 20:38 | Bertl | well, if your contributions are valuable then small ones can make a big difference
| 20:38 | PipeManMusic | :)
| 20:39 | Bertl | for us, audio currently is a 'module we will look at later'
| 20:39 | PipeManMusic | Sure.
| 20:39 | PipeManMusic | Are you still running a linux core?
| 20:39 | Bertl | yes, the axiom alpha is running linux
| 20:39 | PipeManMusic | That simplifies things.
| 20:40 | Bertl | indeed, most of our setup is done by shell scripts :)
| 20:41 | PipeManMusic | Have you guys set a goal for the audio module.
| 20:41 | PipeManMusic | ?
| 20:42 | Bertl | not yet, we didn't even consider what it should do or what interfaces are required
| 20:42 | Bertl | but it would be a good idea to add something to the wiki about that or post on the mailing list
| 20:42 | PipeManMusic | Well, on the one hand, you could just provide a usb 2.0 port and call it good honestly.
| 20:43 | PipeManMusic | That isn't all that great for people looking for a traditional workflow though.
| 20:44 | Bertl | I'm not so much a fan of usb and usb audio/video, mostly because the protocol itself is not very realtime and having proper sync and/or moving stuff around is complicated
| 20:44 | Bertl | so something like a synchronized i2s bus or similar sounds much more appropriate ... but that's just handwaving
| 20:45 | PipeManMusic | Well, a fist step could just be outputing a timecode that alows audio to be synce in post production.
| 20:45 | PipeManMusic | And not handeling audio on the camera at all.
| 20:45 | Bertl | yes, that's the plan
| 20:46 | Bertl | (for the first step)
| 20:46 | PipeManMusic | To be honest that is likely all I'd need personally.
| 20:46 | PipeManMusic | I have tons of audio gear.
| 20:47 | Bertl | the nick 'sounds' like that :)
| 20:51 | PipeManMusic | Heh, I was the host of "The Open Source Musician Podcast" for many years.

| 21:11 | Bertl | that sounds like you don't want to actually go to work :)
| 21:12 | sasha_c | perhaps. This is one of the busiest times of the year at work (week 3 of Semester 1), where things can get a bit stressful
