| 17:14 | Bertl | morning folks!
| 17:14 | Bertl | hey fysal!
| 17:18 | Bertl | check out the IRC logs, there has been some discussions regarding the smart switcher

| 17:43 | Elbehery | Hey bertl, where can i find info about the control daemon interface?
| 17:44 | Bertl | probably the best soure right now would be BAndiT1983|away when he's around
| 17:44 | Bertl | (currently working on defining the interface)
| 17:44 | Elbehery | Hmmm alright
| 17:44 | Elbehery | I started a simulink environment simulating a mass being heated and a fan cooling it
| 17:45 | Elbehery | i am not at the point of defining a very simple pid controller and inserting it to the fan controller in the simulink environment
| 17:45 | Bertl | s/not/now/?
| 17:46 | Elbehery | but at the moment i am abit confused about the state controlled fan you mentioned earlier like based on what we will decide to stop the fan of being noise
| 17:46 | Elbehery | sorry i meant now*
| 17:47 | Bertl | maybe it would suffice to have different target temperatures and hysteresis values for each state?
| 17:47 | Bertl | like for example, when the camera is 'idle' or when 'between action' and 'recording'
| 17:48 | RexOrCine | IRC Highlights - https://wiki.apertus.org/index.php/IRC_Highlights
| 17:48 | Elbehery | Aha
| 17:49 | Bertl | because ultimately it doesn't make sense to stop the fan despite heat building up or have it running full speed just because nothing is going on, etc
| 17:51 | Bertl | so for example, when the 'operator' decides that 'between shots' the camera should really cool down as good as possible, then setting the temp limit low should achieve that quite well
| 17:51 | Bertl | during a shot, the defaults would simply allow more heat to build up, keeping the system more quiet
| 17:52 | Bertl | but maybe a limit to the fan PWM would be a good idea there too, like a min/max
| 17:52 | Bertl | e.g. keep a 20% min for the fan, but limit it to 50% (unless the system starts to overheat, of course)
| 17:54 | Bertl | (just doing some brainstorming here :)
| 17:54 | Elbehery | Aha, good point. Min and Max values for pwm are set based on the current state and of course as long as the system temp. is within the allowed range am i getting this correctly ?
| 17:55 | Bertl | yes, I don't think that it makes sense to force a max when the camera will shut down or reboot because of overheating
| 17:56 | Bertl | which brings us to the definition of 'safe' themperatures
| 17:56 | Bertl | there will probably be two sets of limits for those for each sensor
| 17:57 | Bertl | something like a 'desired' range in which 'good' performance can be expected
| 17:57 | Bertl | and an 'absolute maximum' range within operation is guaranteed
| 17:58 | Elbehery | Once t is bigger than the absolute maximum temperature should the target temp be adjusted ? or the system will shutdown ?
| 18:00 | Bertl | I'd say at least we need to produce a warning that the system has left the safe operating range
| 18:01 | Bertl | i.e. some kind of alert signal is required and software should check for the reason and act accordingly
| 18:02 | Bertl | note that the controller inside the FPGA does not need to be aware of the different states, they can (and should) be adjusted from userspace
| 18:03 | Bertl | (just in case this wasn't clear)
| 18:04 | Elbehery | Where exactly the alert signal is sent to? i mean is there something like an LED that indicates safe operating mode ? or this is sent to other software?
| 18:05 | Bertl | definitely other software for now
| 18:06 | Elbehery | aha, so the t732 software should also communicate with this software informing it the safe operating modes are not exceeded based on the reading + do the communication with the plant [fan controller]
| 18:07 | Elbehery | + use the control daemon interface to gather all the reading
| 18:07 | Bertl | I think that would be the best approach for now
| 18:07 | Bertl | at some point, it could even be integrated into the control deamon
| 18:08 | Elbehery | aha
| 18:10 | Elbehery | thanks so much for your time, i will probably send a very simple prototype for the controller once i am done.
| 18:10 | Bertl | excellent! thanks for working on it!
| 18:11 | Bertl | please try to add information to the lab task where it is missing
| 18:12 | Elbehery | great, here is what i think is missing in the lab description
| 18:13 | Elbehery | 1- the control algorithm uses the T757 interface to collect the readings, 2- the control alg. decides which mode of operation the system is at, 3- it will report the current mode of operation to another software, 4- it will adjust the fan speed and limit the target temp/ max - min pwm values based on the current state of operation
| 18:14 | Elbehery | I will probably add these in a comment under the T732 link is it okay ?
| 18:15 | Bertl | yes, that's the idea, extend the lab task with information gathered and ideas you have how to improve it ...
| 18:16 | Elbehery | alright
