Bertl
morning folks!
09:05
danieel
Spirit532: if that is an usb3 head, you will find a very small Spartan6 as phy decoder (e.g. LX4) and a Cypress FX3 bridge for the usb part
09:05
Spirit532
no
09:05
Spirit532
there's no fx3
09:06
danieel
what is the interface then? CL ?
09:06
Spirit532
hold on, let me take the back off
09:08
Spirit532
nope, nevermind
09:09
Spirit532
it doesn't want to come apart
09:09
Spirit532
it's got a tiny FPGA inside, that I know
09:09
Spirit532
but certainly not an fx3
09:09
danieel
why do you made such assumption?
09:10
Spirit532
because I've been in one
09:15
Spirit532
actually, this model might have the FX3
09:16
Spirit532
the others don't
09:17
Spirit532
yes, it does use the FX3
09:20
danieel
:)
09:48
Spirit532
surprising
09:48
Spirit532
the FX3 can't reach 5 gigabit speeds as advertised
09:48
Spirit532
but they somehow manage to
09:49
Spirit532
every attempt I've seen stopped at around 4.8-4.9
09:53
Bertl
maybe it's overclocked :)
09:54
Spirit532
could be
09:55
Bertl
nah, I think you are either 'measuring' the wrong thing (payload vs. wire transfer) or the FX3 is doing a lot of retransmissions
09:55
Spirit532
I didn't measure anything personally
09:55
Spirit532
a few of my friends did
09:55
Bertl
the bandwidth limit is not on the USB side, it is on the GPIF II
09:56
Spirit532
this is one of the reasons Point Grey(now FLIR) uses a proprietary USB3 solution
09:56
Spirit532
to get higher data rates

someone joked about cmv50000 back in november, but could this be a possible future censor?

(oops, i meant sensor)
15:17
Bertl_oO
yes, a lot of sensors are 'possible'
15:18
Guest54875
its not listed on the wiki so I was just curious, anyway, hope you all have a great day
15:18
Bertl_oO
from the specificiation, it has 22LVDS channels @830Mbps, so that is within our defined interface
15:19
Bertl_oO
the size is relatively large, but 141pin PGA package should work as well
15:20
Bertl_oO
the price seems to be around 6400 USD, so it's not something you buy every day though :)
15:20
Guest54875
oh hi, thanks for the reply, wow thats cool, can already see a future upgrade then :)
15:21
Bertl_oO
also 30FPS at 12bit full resolution is not that great for moving pictures
15:22
Guest54875
hmm... good points...

the Ximea camera is not compabiel with USB2
19:14
Spirit532
so here are a few shots taken over USB2
19:16
Spirit532
whenever it loads...
19:19
Spirit532
https://i.spirit.re/test%20shots.7z
19:19
Spirit532
there.
19:20
Spirit532
note that I had absolutely no control over the camera or sensor - it only magically managed to stream images, even though it's not compatible with USB2.
19:21
Bertl_oO
interesting line in the middle of the first image
19:21
Spirit532
it's across all of them
19:21
Spirit532
no idea why it's there, the camera is brand new.
19:21
Spirit532
but it's not dead - you can see pixels.
19:22
Bertl_oO
funny that it seems to stop shortly before the bottom
19:22
Spirit532
yeah, it's really odd
19:22
Bertl_oO
does it wander around if you turn the camera?
19:22
Bertl_oO
(might be related to the bright spots)
19:23
Spirit532
nope
19:23
Spirit532
I'll test it out more when another USB3 pcie card arrives
19:23
Spirit532
this one gave up the ghost in 5 minutes
19:24
Spirit532
went from "nice and steady stream of images" to "POWER SURGE DETECTED" on all four ports... of which there are only 2.
19:25
Bertl_oO
usb3 is tricky
19:27
Bertl_oO
took me a number of tries to find a card/hub combo which works reasonably well on Linux and allows for high bandwidth transfers
19:28
Spirit532
this is microsocks waldows.
19:28
Spirit532
the funny thing is, this camera only pulls 2.5W
19:28
Bertl_oO
well, there you never know what to blame :)
19:29
Spirit532
it was most certainly the hardware
19:29
Spirit532
I tried every single firmware and driver version
19:30
Bertl_oO
that was fun for sure
19:31
Spirit532
I even tried the hardware troubleshooting route
19:32
Spirit532
but I won't go deep, because I want my warranty.
19:52
Bertl_oO
yeah, you probably gonna need it if that vertical column stays
19:53
Spirit532
oh no, I have no warranty from Ximea
19:53
Spirit532
for that I would have to pay the $1500 price tag! :D
19:54
Spirit532
but it's not a bad column, it's just heavily offset. I think a firmware update will fix it, I just wasn't risking it over USB2.
19:56
Bertl_oO
well, I don't think firmware updates have such high bandwidth requirements, but what do I know ...
