Hi, I am Vijay, First year, B.tech Undergrad from Amrita University from India, I would like to contribute to Apertus as I am bit more familiar with C and python and HTML things mainly. I have recently just started to learn the basics and fundamentals of iOS, macOS development with help of Apple documentation. I just glanced through the codebase of Apertus and thought I could contribute to it.

I am currently using a Mac, Is it possible to work on macOS?
13:34
Bertl
I'm pretty sure for a number of tasks macOS is more than sufficient ...
13:35
Bertl
check out https://lab.apertus.org/
13:36
Bertl
and look for mainly software related tasks or have a look at the wiki what's missing etc
13:42
vijay_
is there any setup on my laptop required?
13:43
Bertl
that probably requires on the task you want to work on
13:43
Bertl
s/requires/depends/
13:46
vijay_
Can you suggest me some bugs to begin with and setup the environment related to that!
13:47
NITHIN
Hello, I'm Nithin, FIrst year, B.tech Undergraduate and I want to contribute to Apertus.
13:47
Bertl
Hello NITHIN! Good to hear!
13:47
vijay___

13:49
Bertl
vijay___: well, for example there is a lot of interesting stuff you can do with QEMU
13:49
Bertl
all you need for that is setup a build environment to rebuild recent QEMU and some kind of editor or IDE to make changes there
13:50
NITHIN
I'm using Linux and want to work on axiom-beta-firmware.
13:50
Bertl
any specific part you want to work on?
13:51
Bertl
vijay___: btw, you might want to get a proper IRC client instead of the webclient for stability reasons

Suggest me some because I'm a beginner.
13:53
Bertl
first a question here, what is 'the firmware' for you?

I didn't get you ?

when you say 'axiom-beta-firmware', what exactly do you mean?

NITHIN
I found axiom-beta-firmware and opencine as active and I wanted to work on easy stuff.
14:05
vijay___
Can you suggest me some projects related to bug fixes which are easy to get started!

BAndiT1983
hi NITHIN, define easy please
14:12
BAndiT1983
hi vijay___, we have a lot of areas to work on, but it's difficult to pinpoint easy bugfixes, lab.apertus.org should be a good intro, just check what's there and if you need further help, then we can support of course

NITHIN
I'm beginner and I just seen axiom-beta-firmware on the github page and felt easier than the opencine.
14:18
BAndiT1983
easier is rather relative, as many parts of the firmware are related to hardware, like setting right registers in memory etc.
14:18
BAndiT1983
also there is a linux daemon, which should control the camera as central service
14:19
BAndiT1983
it depends on your background and your interests
14:20
BAndiT1983
NITHIN, have you checked lab.apertus.org?
14:21
Bertl
vijay___, NITHIN: personally I think if you haven't dived into the details of the AXIOM Camera yet, the best starting point would be to play around with QEMU and get one of the recent SD images to boot there ...
14:21
BAndiT1983
also there is a side project, which involves opencv for pcb inspection, just a prototype is there, but it can already find fiducials and straighten out the PCB image for further processing
14:22
Bertl
this is fairly independent from AXIOM specific details, works on (almost) any platform and still gives you an idea of the hardware as well as the tasks required to work on the software side
14:23
Bertl
https://lab.apertus.org/T724 would be a related task there
14:23
Bertl
and once you are comfortable, the QEMU Challenge maybe?
14:24
BAndiT1983
ah, the QEMU challenge is really interesting, also the tasks of extending it

1. build the linux image and boot it in qemu (see https://github.com/apertus-open-source-cinema/axiom-beta-firmware/blob/master/makefiles/README.md#build-it)
17:33

2. build qemu peripherals
