MEETING TIME!
17:00
se6astian
who is here?
17:00
Bertl
is here ...
17:01
yasmin
yasmin is here
17:02
se6astian
hi yasmin, great to see you at the meeting
17:02
se6astian
do you have any news to share ?
17:02
vup
is here
17:04
yasmin
i started the internship with Betrl, did my first intial task. i faced some problems in having vivado and trying to solve it now. my current task is to navigate through the beta HDLs
17:06
se6astian
very good, anything else to share?
17:07
se6astian
if not please go ahead vup!
17:08
vup
ok, I don't have much, but I spent some time debugging a issue se6astian was having with the fw2.x and managed to find / fix it
17:09
yasmin
no that's it for now
17:09
vup
finally I also fixed the automatic upload of the firmware images for each commit, so that should now be working again hopefully
17:09
se6astian
thanks yasmin!
17:10
vup
thats it from me
17:10
se6astian
great vup, so I can verify the fix by downloading the latest automatic build and the axiom-start.sh script should run through now right?
17:10
vup
se6astian: correct, the newest currently is https://github.com/apertus-open-source-cinema/axiom-firmware/releases/tag/nightly%2Fab13d49d
17:11
se6astian
thanks, will test!
17:11
vup
(the numbering broke for this one I think, but as far as I can tell the next one should have the proper number again...)
17:11
se6astian
right
17:12
se6astian
anyone else who wants to report, please let me know
17:12
se6astian
minor updates from my side
17:12
se6astian
was a bit busy with university last week...
17:12
se6astian
I finished assembling the second tele built dev kit after missing springs, screws and nuts arrived
17:13
se6astian
I documented the process as all microzed heatsinks were attached by bertl so far
17:13
se6astian
2nd dev kit is tested and fully operational now
17:14
Bertl
yay!
17:14
se6astian
then on Thursday I gave a project presentation at vienna hackerspace called happylab
17:14
se6astian
turnout was small but those attending were very interesting and very interested, so good chats and showing hardware, enclosure, etc. afterwards
17:15
se6astian
fabian who is designing/building a stereo 3d rig based on two betas was also there
17:15
se6astian
we discussed next steps and open todos
17:15
se6astian
today I met the new factoryhub manager and explained our project
17:16
se6astian
future collaborations and networking opportunities were discussed
17:16
se6astian
and I prepared all parts, pcbs, stencil, etc. for HDMI plugin module assembly
17:16
se6astian
we have around 12 pcbs
17:16
se6astian
so those will get populated when I am there the next time
17:17
se6astian
thats it from my side, will work on darkframe evaluation of hdmi 4k raw recorded videos again soon
17:18
se6astian
ah and I drafted a workpackage proposal for the IFT collaboration grant
17:18
se6astian
its in internal review currently and will go to ift as next step for discussion
17:18
se6astian
Bertl: what can you share about your recent weeks progress?
17:19
Bertl
well, I did receive a new toy to play with last week
17:19
Bertl
after we had good success with the Magewell USB capture dongle, I decided to try out one of the PCIe cards they produce
17:20
Bertl
and a Magewell quad HDMI card arrived last week, which I immediately started testing in our setup
17:20
se6astian
ah, exciting!
17:21
Bertl
if you remember we did hit the USB BW limit with the USB version, so I made some tests to see whether the PCIe device would overcome this
17:21
se6astian
yes around 390MB/s max throughput with the USB3 device
17:22
Bertl
it seems that the design is build in such a way what each capture device has its own PCIe conenction and the card itself is PCIe v2 so the limit for each lane is still 5Gbit/s there
17:22
Bertl
but to my surprise, it also seems that this is more than enough to get the data we currently produce
17:23
Bertl
I had some initial issues with the card, because the tools are completely different from the USB version
17:23
Bertl
and the card has some additional features and it is not always clear which feature is enabled or not
17:24
Bertl
I also ordered a bunch of 8K HDMI cables for testing as I got some errors during hash frame checks, so I'm currently testing with those new cables to see if that was cable related or not
17:24
Bertl
with some tweaks to the video timing, it seems we can now do 2048x1536 at 44 FPS
17:25
se6astian
not bad!!!
17:25
Bertl
and with increased frequency (~165MHz) we should be able to do 50FPS
17:25
se6astian
and the card has 4 inputs IIRC?
17:25
Bertl
yes, the card has 4 inputs and they seem to be fairly independent
17:26
Bertl
I haven't managed to test all four in action yet, but I will do tests with the 3 outpus we currently have (2x plugin, 1x shield)
17:27
Bertl
in theory, there should be no problem to have 4 HDMI outputs on the Beta, 3 on a dual plugin and one on the shield
17:27
se6astian
impressive
17:27
Bertl
currently my primary concern is that I still have some occasional errors
17:28
Bertl
i.e. the capture is not as reliable as I'd expect, but I also have to check with Magewell as the card firmware is not the latest and I have no clue how to update it :)
17:29
Bertl
but everything looks quite promising so far
17:30
se6astian
it seems the firmware update tool they offer is windows only?
17:30
Bertl
as far as I could see, but they officially support Linux (it is in their spec sheet as well) and they claim live firmware update, no reset required
17:31
se6astian
maybe a topic to contact their tech support for
17:31
Bertl
that's what I plan to do
17:31
se6astian
great
17:31
Bertl
that's it from my side for this week
17:32
se6astian
great news!
17:32
se6astian
many thanks
17:32
se6astian
last chance: anyone else who wants to share updates?
17:33
se6astian
alright then, many thanks all participants! MEETING CONCLUDED!
17:33
Bertl
thanks for the moderation!
17:34
se6astian
as always: my pleasure!
