17:04
se6ast1an
did you do a meeting last monday?
17:04
oscar__
Hi!
17:04
se6ast1an
or should wetry to cover two weeks?
17:04
BAndiT1983
was in amsterdam, had no time for meetings at certain time
17:05
BAndiT1983
2 weeks
17:05
BAndiT1983
http://irc.apertus.org/index.php?day=03&month=02&year=2020
17:05
RexOrCine
He was getting baked.
17:05
BAndiT1983
?
17:05
RexOrCine
(stoned)
17:06
BAndiT1983
nah, not my thing at all, but interesting fact was that many british youngsters were there and mostly stoned
17:06
Bertl
RexOrCine: do not generalize personal experiences ... :)
17:06
RexOrCine
I haven't got the money for getting baked.
17:07
BAndiT1983
you are preferring to sniff glue? ;)
17:07
Bertl
RexOrCine: just smoked :)
17:07
RexOrCine
... I could cry.
17:07
BAndiT1983
ehm, back to the meeting, please
17:07
se6ast1an
so before we go into the flavours and other utilities required lets get started. who wants to report about their last two weeks -> PM me and then I will try to put speakers in order
17:07
se6ast1an
afterwards we can discuss other general topics/plans/ideas
17:08
Bertl
got nothing relevant to report, was kept busy with the flu and other unfortunate events ...
17:08
RexOrCine
Is PB done Herbert?
17:08
Bertl
basically same state as last time we talked
17:09
se6ast1an
right, I hope the flu will let you out of bed again soon
17:09
se6ast1an
BAndiT1983: please go ahead
17:09
BAndiT1983
alright, not too much to tell, but after we head performance problems on the remote, some general rework was done
17:10
BAndiT1983
if my measurements are correct, we get an update in around 55ms, it's still a huge time (for my liking), but investigation is ongoing and i will add more unit tests to ensure proper drawing, so the overhead there is reduced
17:11
BAndiT1983
have created a docker container with XC32 for CircleCI builds, the build itself will be extended with unit tests and code coverage
17:11
BAndiT1983
couldn't succeed in building XC32 myself, as the source from microchip are not complete or at least are missing proper scripts
17:12
BAndiT1983
in the course of investigations we have talked with Bertl, if another MCU would be possible, like atmel SAM E70, which is ARM and has open toolchains, this would cut the dependency on microchip compiler and so on
17:12
BAndiT1983
that's it from me
17:12
se6ast1an
many thanks!

17:14
RexOrCine
... Various additions were made tot his page thr week before that - https://wiki.apertus.org/index.php/10-Enclosures_and_Associated_Mechanical_Parts
17:15
RexOrCine
Various other bits and pieces but not important.
17:15
se6ast1an
thanks!
17:15
BAndiT1983
we should investigate how to create clean thumbnails, as many small texts from original images are distracting the eye, full image with text would appear after clicking
17:16
se6ast1an
BAndiT1983: I also noticed you did decide to (co)mentor again for GSoC 2020 and added some tasks, great!
17:16
RexOrCine
Happy with a solution for that as long as the tags stay intact if someone takes the images.
17:16
BAndiT1983
yep, was last moment decision
17:16
se6ast1an
quick update from me:
17:17
se6ast1an
fosdem occupied me mostly and meeting people in belgium as you probably already read in details
17:17
se6ast1an
great to see you here oscar__!
17:17
oscar__
Roger!
17:17
se6ast1an
beside that the GSoC 2020 application has been submitted last week
17:18
se6ast1an
with a bit of luck we are again particiapting and will be notified feb 20th
17:19
oscar__
Perfect
17:19
se6ast1an
thats it from my side
17:19
se6ast1an
vup any news?
17:19
vup
nothing new from me in the last two weeks, still stuck with exams
17:19
se6ast1an
ok
17:20
se6ast1an
I think that completes the report part
17:20
se6ast1an
are there any other topics we want to discuss?
17:21
BAndiT1983
remote and MCU maybe?
17:22
BAndiT1983
Bertl: still there?
17:22
oscar__
Apart from the Mozart Kucheln you brought to Belgium? … I’ll contact Bertrand soon to meet up and work together with the Belgian beta.
17:23
Bertl
BAndiT1983: yup, still here ...
17:23
se6ast1an
oscar__: great, do you need any contact details?
17:23
oscar__
I have an email address, so it’ll work out I guess
17:24
se6ast1an
ok
17:24
se6ast1an
to give some context: what we were discussing among other things in belgium was that we should focus more on working with the camera as it currently is
17:24
Bertl
\o/
17:24
se6ast1an
we thought for some time that the USB3 module would be operational shortly so we waited for that
17:25
oscar__
And win an Oscar :)
17:25
Bertl
we already got one, no? *G*
17:25
se6ast1an
the key is to find means of communication for whatever we create
17:25
oscar__
Right… a Cesar then ;)
17:26
se6ast1an
to put emphasis on anything created not being "the best the camera could do" but rather it being a snapshot of the current development stage
17:26
se6ast1an
maybe a small text watermark in video/stills that shows the firmware version hash/version would be a way of doing that
17:26
se6ast1an
ideas welcome
17:27
oscar__
Good idea!
17:27
Bertl
metadata should work for that, but if you want to brand it explicitely, why not
17:29
RexOrCine
When is footage likely to be shot?
17:30
se6ast1an
it would be a technical solution to have the hdmi overlay contain text about firmware already but I am not sure we want that burnt in?
17:30
se6ast1an
as it could always be added in post as well, but that requires manually noting these details
17:30
oscar__
I’d prefer to burn it in during rendering an edit, because who knows where the footage can be used later on (without the overly)
17:31
RexOrCine
Exactly.
17:31
se6ast1an
true
17:33
oscar__
Footage can be shot at any time, but I’ll try to find ways to also shoot things during real productions (upcoming short film, feature documentary, scenes for a feature film or behind the scenes during shooting)
17:33
se6ast1an
we could create a template overlay that can be applied in post so the format is recognized between different projects
17:34
se6ast1an
I will create a simple draft for this overlay then we can discuss it
17:36
se6ast1an
btw my USB PID code request has not yet been merged, but there is also no request for change or anything...
17:36
se6ast1an
https://github.com/pidcodes/pidcodes.github.com/pull/494
17:36
oscar__
OK, perfect.
17:37
se6ast1an
oscar did the stripe account verify succeed ?
17:41
se6ast1an
Bertl: did you get to try the rubber laser cutting?
17:41
Bertl
nope
17:42
se6ast1an
ok
17:44
oscar__
@se6ast1an: I think so because the request for documents disappeared. I only have a notification for “Update your integration now for SCA”
17:44
se6ast1an
good, yeah that should be a separate issue
17:47
se6ast1an
BAndiT1983: you wanted to talk about the MCU
17:48
se6ast1an
what is the context exactly? just CI for xc32?
17:49
BAndiT1983
it's more of the general thing, the microchip toolchain is forcing one into their universe
17:50
se6ast1an
sure, but we have several PICs on different PCBs already
17:51
se6ast1an
so I see no advantage of "leaving that universe" as you say or am I missing something?
17:51
BAndiT1983
personally i would see ARM as more open alternative, toolchains- and information-wise
17:51
BAndiT1983
Bertl: have you done any more thinking on that topic?
17:52
Bertl
note: from the PCB side, I'm open to alternatives like the SAM 70 I already suggested
17:53
Bertl
it was also proposed to go the FPGA route with some Lattice ECP part, but I think this adds flexibility where we do not need it while complicating stuff and adding a lot of resource overhead
17:54
Bertl
(i.e. lower performance, higher power consumption, etc)
17:56
BAndiT1983
Bertl: is there a roadmap for pic32? cannot find what microchip is planning generally
17:57
BAndiT1983
this is at least the current list of microchip 32bit MCUs -> https://www.microchip.com/design-centers/32-bit
17:58
BAndiT1983
sam e70 is also theirs now, since acquisition of atmel, but arm is more open than pic32
17:58
Bertl
s/pic32/mips/
18:01
se6ast1an
right I have to leave now to still buy stuff in the supermarket before it closes
18:02
se6ast1an
feel free to continue the discussion without me and I will read up on it later
18:03
se6ast1an
next official meeting again next monday 18:00 as usual
18:04
BAndiT1983
Bertl: and here i would start screaming, just out of pain -> https://microchipdeveloper.com/harmony3:same70-getting-started-training-module
18:04
BAndiT1983
they really added sam e70 and others to xc32 and harmony
18:04
Bertl
well, makes sense from their perspective, no?
18:05
BAndiT1983
yes, but from my perspective is harmony giving me creeps every time
18:05
Bertl
never used it ... so can't tell
18:05
BAndiT1983
same here, just seeing the examples when trying to find how to set things in plain, without any code generator
18:06
BAndiT1983
don't remember if we have discussed advantages and disadvantages of trying sam e70
18:10
Bertl
well, from the hardware design it's probably the same
18:11
BAndiT1983
don't think that firmware would need too many adjustments
18:11
RexOrCine

18:12

USB is a bit different topic, but also not that wild
18:13
oscar__
Have to go too, but I’ll catch up later. Bertl: Hello from Manon and say hello to Morrigan!
