ItsMeLenny
what would people say is the best and cheapest prosumer camera around?
11:46
ItsMeLenny
or which brand is better to go with
11:47
Bertl
so two questions?

RexOrCine[m]
Pound for pound probably a GH4 at the moment. Used you can pick them up for about 800.

Bertl, kind of like choose your own question :P
11:54
ItsMeLenny
RexOrCine[m], i was thinking panasonic, simply for the leica lenses
11:54
ItsMeLenny
oh right GH4 is a DSLR
11:54
Bertl
well, I guess the cheapest one is unlikely to be the best
11:54
ItsMeLenny
i mean an actual video camera
11:55
ItsMeLenny
Bertl, of course, but i mean a high end camera that is cheap
11:55
ItsMeLenny
not interested in DSLRs tho
11:55
Bertl
like the AXIOM?
11:56
ItsMeLenny
in a sense, which i would like, but its out of my price range at the moment
11:56
Bertl
so not so high end then?
11:56
ItsMeLenny
im hoping for something thats cheaper so i can make #1 awseom vidz 9000 so i can make the sheks to pay for an axiom
11:57
ItsMeLenny
i mean more prosumer video camera, kind of this kind of thing http://epfilms.tv/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Canon_XF100.jpg
11:57
Bertl
isn't that a cam corder?
11:58
ItsMeLenny
guess it depends where you live? :P
11:58
RexOrCine[m]
Yeah, GH4.
11:58
ItsMeLenny
i have a 550D but the fullHD video in it is actually upscaled from a smaller resolution, and whilst magiclantern is making great strides in the crop HD compressed raw video, its not trickled down to the 550D yet, and i havent attemped porting any code
11:59
ItsMeLenny
a GH4 as for as i can see is a DSLR, i dont get any other results when i google it
12:01
RexOrCine[m]
You said "awseom vidz 9000" ... if someone can't make awseom vidz 9000 with a GH4, then, I dunno.
12:02
BAndiT1983
GH4 is a DSLR, but it's advertised also as camcorder with 60fps for fullhd
12:02
BAndiT1983
with 4:2:2 10bit
12:03
ItsMeLenny
yeah, dslrs arnt very nice to hold for video
12:04
ItsMeLenny
plus i dont particularly trust the autofocus in them
12:04
ItsMeLenny
and its not at all particularly cheap
12:05
ItsMeLenny
i guess its advertised as a camcorder cos its micro four thirds
12:06
BAndiT1983
also because of 4k with high bitrate
12:07
BAndiT1983
and wow, this thing is fast with 12 with AF or 40 without AF photos per second
12:07
BAndiT1983
still, my eos760d is sufficient for my needs
12:12
RexOrCine[m]
See, I prefer locked off as a style. Joanna Hogg is my favourite...
12:12
RexOrCine[m]
You could go around in circles forever with this stuff, but in terms of one brand against another brand all existing brands are interested in the same thing - locking you in. It's all about the story and the mind. Money-wise I think you get the most from it.

RexOrCine[m]
Nah. Interesting isn't it. How someone so good could have crawled out from something so bad.
12:23
BAndiT1983
what is she famous for?
12:24
BAndiT1983
ah, imdb tells it right away -> "Prefers to roll cameras for as long as the tape lasts, while the cast play out improvised iterations of the scene. "
12:25
RexOrCine[m]
She isn't really famous I don't think, but it's her most recent films that are the gems.
12:27
RexOrCine[m]
It's a matter of taste/preference I guess.
12:30
BAndiT1983
there are a lot of films which are not shown in the mainstream cinemas but rather in small independent ones, french and british movies are really interesting, different humour or drama approaches
12:32
RexOrCine[m]
Utopia
12:32
RexOrCine[m]

12:32
RexOrCine[m]
Utopia on right now.
12:36
BAndiT1983
watched the trailer, cannot tell what it is, but it has the british style which is typical
12:37
RexOrCine[m]
Which one Utopia?
12:37
ItsMeLenny
left the channel
12:37
BAndiT1983
yes, utopia
12:39
BAndiT1983
explosion scene is composed i suppose, as the guy couldn't go away in such a calm way and the explosion occuring right behind him, the wave would throw him several metres across the landscape
12:40
BAndiT1983
i mean this one -> https://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/explosionforparagraphone.jpg
12:41
RexOrCine[m]
Hard to describe. A drama I suppose. Pretty swish though. I like Paolo Sorrentino a lot, some of Utopia looks like something he might do. Good story, worth having.
12:43
BAndiT1983
will look for the blu-ray version, usa wanted to remake it (as always, seems like a lack of ideas) but budget problems were the reason to stop it
12:46
BAndiT1983
remakes of french comedies were just bland, and of spanish horror movies also
12:46
RexOrCine[m]
Aye it would have been terrible no doubt. That's been tried with dozens of things over the past decade. It's almost like execs over there can't bare seeing something decent come from another part of Earth.
12:46
niculescu_vlad
Hi! I went to sleep quite early last evening, that is why I didn't answer.
12:47
niculescu_vlad
I talked to my friend and he has the setup at office. I will take a photo tomorrow or Tuesday
12:47
RexOrCine[m]
Or perhaps its about how insular or self absorbed the States marketplace is.
12:48
RexOrCine[m]
niculescu_vlad: Good stuff.

hollywood got rather boring
12:48
BAndiT1983
about peltier: how is condesaton avoided?
12:50
niculescu_vlad
Do not expect at something too "professional". The camera board has a free zone behind the sensor (a small one) where we put a piece of copper. That small piece is bonded by another bigger piece of copper that is attached to the Peltier.
12:50
niculescu_vlad
And this is because the camera sensor has a BGA package :(
12:51
BAndiT1983
what would fit better?
12:51
niculescu_vlad
so it is impossible to attach the copper direct under the sensor
12:51
niculescu_vlad
maybe a TQFP style package would have been better
12:51
niculescu_vlad
it does not have pads under the part
12:51
Bertl
also tricky to attach to the sensor though
12:52
niculescu_vlad
so a metal piece would fit
12:52
Bertl
(without ripping the pads off, I mean)
12:52
niculescu_vlad
indeed. But a small hole can be done by factory
12:52
Bertl
yeah, but for proper heat transfer, you need some pressure
12:52
niculescu_vlad
However, a cooling through PCB can be enough to cool the local area
12:53
Bertl
and TQFP is not the way to go, although easier to do than with a BGA :)
12:53
BAndiT1983
are there any TWFP packaged sensors out there in that performance range?
12:53
BAndiT1983
*TQFP
12:53
niculescu_vlad
But I don't know how to do a direct contact
12:55
BAndiT1983
some are sceptical about cooling at all -> http://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/24531/why-arent-there-any-cooled-ccd-sensors-to-reduce-noise
12:55
niculescu_vlad
I don't know about the performance
12:55
niculescu_vlad
I didn't investigated this
12:56
BAndiT1983
was just looking for typical things in cooling of image sensors, but there is not much besides theory
12:56
BAndiT1983
ouch -> https://petapixel.com/2016/10/11/cooled-nikon-d5500a-chills-sensor-clearer-star-photos/
12:56
niculescu_vlad
Yes, maybe it is quite expensive and difficult to integrate such a mechanism in a product
12:57
niculescu_vlad
Wow, that guy implemented a "small refrigerator"
12:58
BAndiT1983
maybe you need nitrogen cooling ;)
12:58
BAndiT1983
liquid nitrogen
12:58
niculescu_vlad
Yes. For hobby staff, I will limit to the peltier
12:59
niculescu_vlad
It's interesting to enhance the quality of a DSLR by cooling it. I also have a telescope adapter for my D3100 Nikon. Also, never tried to cool it and check the performance difference
