alexML: maybe the dark frame is already clipped or distorted at the bottom end of the sensor linear range?

But even/odd delta as well as gain wouldn't be a big problem to correct for if they are constant

morning folks!
10:48
alexML
morning
10:48
alexML
Bertl: I found the answer
10:48
alexML
when I averaged the dark frame, I subtracted the black reference columns from each image
10:49
alexML
those columns have an offset between odd/even fields as well
10:49
alexML
but - the value is different
10:49
alexML
so, ignoring those black columns fixed it
10:51
Bertl
ah, excellent
10:52
Bertl
now I wonder what those black columns actually contain
10:52
Bertl
in theory, they should behave identical to a photosite with the electronic shutter closed
10:53
Bertl
i.e. they should do all the precharge, store, convert cycles except for the discharge one, which would be blocked
10:54
alexML
I used them to autodetect the black level (took the median value from all of them)
10:54
alexML
(it's not yet commited)
10:54
alexML
btw, do you have any recent samples? with the latest sensor settings I only have the dark frames and the grey frames
10:56
Bertl
currently I do not even have a working Beta, only parts for testing .... but Iriger has a working camera and has taken some samples with the latest register settings
10:56
Bertl
probably best to contact him via e-mail at the moment
10:57
alexML
I'm interested in samples with black offset greater than 2000 (the color charts have it at 1900, which is too low - clipped shadows)
10:58
Bertl
the other working Beta should be back from 32c3 by now ... I presume se6astian and/or getzi has it
10:58
Bertl
but it doesn't have the "latest" register settings apllied yet
10:58
Bertl
(nevertheless, should be easy to adapt/add)
10:59
Bertl
btw, we are working hard to get you folks your Betas as soon as possible.

14:46

then we will capture new color charts etc. with new register settings

well, really an exploded view, but very nice at that
19:56
davidak
when will you start working on the interface board and power board V2?
19:57
davidak
is that planned before or after the next betas send out?
19:58
Bertl_oO
new interface board design has already started
19:58
Bertl_oO
power board V2 is definitely something for the next batch or maybe even later
19:59
Bertl_oO
(requires a lot of testing before we can replace the current power board)
19:59
davidak
and the "simple enclosure"?
19:59
jucar

19:59
Bertl_oO
you have to check with se6astian for that
19:59
davidak
k
20:00
davidak
so if these 3 things are completed i think i would order a beta
20:01
davidak
so i have to make only software updates for some time
20:01
Bertl_oO
so be it! :)
20:03
davidak
it would be nice if you can update https://www.apertus.org/axiom-beta-roadmap daily if that doesn't prevent you from working on important things.
20:03
davidak
like interface board -> started
20:05
davidak
i'm not sure what recorder i will buy but i made some research already
20:05
Bertl_oO
se6astian maintains this overview, but I will keep him informed
20:06
davidak
should i have one that can actual record 4K60p or will that not be possible in the next time?
20:06
Bertl_oO
well, 4k60p is not 4k60p :)
20:07
Bertl_oO
i.e. depends on the compression and color encoding
20:07
davidak
(and i think my computer is not able to edit that :D)
20:08
Bertl_oO
we can currently do (with the "normal" HDMI modules) slightly over 1080p60 444 (i.e. 3 channels, 8bit)
20:08
davidak
else this looks like a good device and is cheap here https://www.teltec.de/index.php?cl=details&cnid=92&anid=12248828-0&listtype=list&&sid=e84e2e85cf057e31517f3f5c7ce8c3de
20:10
davidak
but i think i can't record in 720p120 on such devices
20:10
davidak
that would be interesting for me
20:11
davidak
my iPhone actual can :P
20:11
Bertl_oO
that's the beauty of FOSS/OH and in this case the AXIOM
20:11
Bertl_oO
even if the recorder doesn't support p120, you can record it
20:11
davidak
but how long?
20:12
Bertl_oO
all you need to do is rearrange the data to produce a format the recorder can capture
20:12
davidak
ah ok
20:12
Bertl_oO
simplest example, split 1080p60 in 4 parts
20:12
Bertl_oO
and you get 540p240
20:13
davidak
i understand
20:15
Bertl_oO
granted 720p120 is a little trickier to arrange
20:19
davidak
would you consider a 1080p30 recorder be a good companion for the axiom beta to use it's full potential?
20:19
Bertl_oO
no
20:20
Bertl_oO
as we have up to three HDMI outputs with 1080p60, you will be limited by the recorder
20:20
davidak
what should i get to be future proof?
20:20
Bertl_oO
doesn't mean that it won't work fine if all you want is FullHD
20:21
davidak
4K would be nice some time
20:21
Bertl_oO
the best choice would be a recorder which can do multiple 1080p60 RGB uncompressed streams
20:21
Bertl_oO
but I do not know of such a beast
20:21
davidak
:D
20:22
Bertl_oO
the second best choice is a recorder which can do 4k uncompressed/raw
20:22
davidak
it would be very expensive
20:27
davidak
maybe you can make a open hardware recorder in 4 years :)
20:27
Bertl_oO
it is very likely that we will address the recorder side in the future
20:28
davidak
do you think a recorder is hard to make?
20:28
Bertl_oO
do you think a 4k camera is hard to make? :)
20:28
davidak
i think harder than a recorder
20:30
Bertl_oO
the main problem with recording are the proprietary interfaces which have to be controlled/utilized
20:30
davidak
a recorder is just a computer and maybe a fpga for scaling that has some inputs and some outputs
20:30
davidak
like HDMI and SATA
20:30
Bertl_oO
a "computer" which handles SATA at enormous speeds
20:30
davidak
and some software of course :D
20:30
davidak
yes :D
20:36
davidak
should i add a list of possible recorders i have found to the wiki or to my own website?
20:37
Bertl_oO
IIRC, there is a wiki page for that, so it would be nice to extend that
20:37
davidak
i will look at it
20:37
Bertl_oO

about simpleneclosure
21:44
se6astian
a first draft version is ready
21:45
se6astian
it will be 3d printed shortly to check if the structure like this can be printed properly at all
21:45
se6astian
with support material and angles, etc.
21:45
se6astian
once we verified that or made appropriate changes to the design we will fine tune all holes/openings/etc. and print the real design
