My name is Roopal Nahar and I am an undergrad student at IIIT Hyderabad . I am interested in working on the project "OpenCine: Raw Image Debayering Methods" . I have previous experience in C++ and C. I have taken courses in Computer Vision, Digital Image Processing and Statistical Methods in AI.
03:06
Roopal08
I have also worked on a project where I implemented Efficient graph based image segmentation ( http://cs.brown.edu/~pff/papers/seg-ijcv.pdf) in C++ . I have also designed a parallel version of this algorithm as a part of my research thesis. I have even done various projects on image processing and vision as a part of my course projects.
03:06
Roopal08
Please let me know how to proceed for applying to the GSOC program for this project.

BAndiT1983
no problem, usually you can find me here, i'm looking periodically at the chat
10:44
Roopal08
So , I have worked on various image processing algorithms on images and videos . I already had a look on opencine . And it looks quite interesting to work on .
10:45
BAndiT1983
try to build it, if you don't have linux, then you can use VirtualBox to get it running, that's how i'm testing if i don't want to reboot my machine
10:47
BAndiT1983
currently i'm preparing a VM for instant usage, without the need to set the environment up, package requirements are relative low at the moment, but not everyone wants to go all the way
10:47
Roopal08

just preparing, but will write basic daemon on Mint in VM for now, because debugging QEMU could be hell, which i would like to avoid today :D
17:14
Bertl
yes, Arch is a 'normal' distro like you would put on your desktop
17:14
BAndiT1983
alright, so possibly we need some lib in-between, but i will investigate that of course
17:14
Bertl
the ARM flavor doesn't feature x86 specific stuff, but that's about all the difference

17:29

haven't thought of Adobe SDK at all, as it all should stay open-source
17:29
Spirit532
it's open-source alright

just sucks and a huge pain to implement.
17:30

FYI, when I was in school, I joined a photography club for one summer, got the idea about how camera works and tech behind it, it was fascinating too, so yeah it does interest to me now, and it does have a bit of nostalgic touch I would say and it's like all coming back.
18:23
Bertl
did you have a look through the prepared tasks yet?
18:29
anuditverma
Had a conversation with @maltefiala, said they will update the task as soon as they have improved the onboarding process
18:29
BAndiT1983
maltefiala already added according tasks, as some things have to be prepared
18:30

i will add a main daemon, as you seem to have linux experience, according to your website, you could take a look anytime later if improvements or fixes have to be made

ad MLV support, what formats do you support already, which others are planned?
18:35
BAndiT1983
i can show MOV preview, and load (C)DNG files
18:35
BAndiT1983
it was just about to expand to the ML community, could be helpful
18:37
se6astian
agreed, those folks could get interested in helping with dev then
18:39
se6astian
but how much extra effort do you estimate it?
18:39
BAndiT1983
i cann anytime expand by using already established lib, but OC was meant to be for special formats, as many programs use libraw or similar for photos
18:39
BAndiT1983
i will take a look first, before i can estimate
18:40

Okay, surely I will if something comes up
18:46
anuditverma
I have a small question though, on the ideas' page, some of them are mentioned under backlog, what's backlog and are these ideas confirmed ? or they need improvements ?
18:47
Bertl
that is just the 'default' name for phabricator workboard categorieso
18:47

anyone else here interested in being added now that I am at it: apertus° GSoC mailing list?
18:57
anuditverma
So I am interested in Web-based AXIOM Beta API idea, I can see the last edit was made by @se6astian, I am able to see some of the examples for changing parameters on the camera internal command line, so those are the prepared tasks I need to perform ? I have gone through the links though, please let me know if I have to complete a work or a task.
18:58
se6astian
also updated https://www.apertus.org/mailinglists
18:58
anuditverma
thanks se6astian, I joined it.
18:59
se6astian
anuditverma: great, we have disscussed this task internally today and streamlined the goals and approaches a bit
18:59
se6astian
the history of this task is that the code was originally created for the axiom alpha
19:00
se6astian
then ported to the axiom beta but just tuned so it would work basically
19:00
se6astian
now it would be the right time to redesign it from scratch properly
19:01
se6astian
the result of this discussion was this new task: https://lab.apertus.org/T757
19:01
se6astian
which needs to be a bit more documented I think
19:01
anuditverma
okay, I am following it
19:01
se6astian
but this discussion was just a few hours a go...
19:02
se6astian
but as I understand it the idea is to create one central control deamon inside the camera
19:02
se6astian
that gets/sets all camera parameters
19:02
se6astian
as central API
19:03
Uttaran_
left the channel
19:11
BAndiT1983
right, i'm on it, investigating at the moment
19:14
anuditverma
So, we need something like a new separate control deamon, so it would not interfere with the other services so as to prevent the deadlock ? Correct me if I got this wrong. And this "user-space" is referred to a memory on the board ?
19:15
BAndiT1983
yes
19:16
anuditverma
okay
19:16
BAndiT1983
daemon should handle the calls, like writing/reading from memory, to avoid dead lock
19:16
Bertl
anuditverma: user-space is stuff runing without kernel priviledges on the ARM cores
19:17
anuditverma
ah okay
19:17
anuditverma
it makes sense now
19:18
BAndiT1983
still have to check ethernet on QEMU to have some virtual camera replica, so i can test the daemon per remote
19:20
se6astian
anuditverma: could you help us clarify the task description so it fulfils GSoC requirements?
19:26
anuditverma
actually I thought some tasks would be given to interested students for a particular idea to check their proficiency, but the "task description" term used by Phabricator is bit ambiguous and can be taken for actual tasks that are need to be performed. If not mentioned otherwise I guess
19:27
BAndiT1983
yes, the system does not explicitly tells you if the task is a bug, task or just discussion
19:27
BAndiT1983
i miss the categorization a bit, as i use jira at work
19:28
anuditverma
I am familiar with jira too
19:29
anuditverma
yes it does show/categorises the bugs/issues etc
19:31
BAndiT1983
i mean, that phabricator has no categories, one could organize it in different columns, but it's not sufficient, as columns are required for different parts of module development
19:31
BAndiT1983
at least labels would be nice
19:32
Bertl
you realize that you can put tasks in more than one project?
19:33
BAndiT1983
newer one has tags, but i haven't seen it in our version
19:33
anuditverma
could you please let me know at what usual timings I can see most of the apertus dev active on IRC ? I usually hangout late in nights here at my end or may be sometimes in the day time, whenever I get time.
19:33
BAndiT1983
yes i do, it's not my first bug tracker i use, there were jira, phabricator, quality center, bugzilla etc.
19:34
Bertl
so you can use that as categories if you like
19:34
Bertl
anuditverma: that is a tough one
19:34
BAndiT1983
then i would require something like OC ideas, OC bugs etc. projects
19:34
BAndiT1983
especially for Bertl :D
19:34
anuditverma
haha sorry my bad
19:35
