| | 17:03 | se6ast1an | apoorva_arora: please kick it off :)
| 17:04 | bluez_[m] | * bluez_ is here
| 17:05 | apoorva_arora | So, I started coding LVDS CODEC for the first phase of the project for reliable LVDS based packet transfer. mainly integrating 8b 10b CODEC with XILINX and LAttice SERDES-DDR primitives.
| 17:06 | apoorva_arora | thats all from my side
| 17:06 | Bertl | got an url for the code so far?
| 17:07 | se6ast1an | btw GSoC news: https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline
| 17:07 | apoorva_arora | I will be ready with a shareable code by tomorrow (currently in different blocks)
| 17:07 | se6ast1an | June 1 Coding officially begins!
| 17:09 | se6ast1an | thanks apoorva_arora!
| 17:09 | se6ast1an | bluez_[m]: your turn
| 17:09 | bluez_[m] | thanks!
| 17:09 | bluez_[m] | hello everyone
| 17:11 | bluez_[m] | so I couldn't do much this week.. learned more about the pic16s programming (bertl helped), got the boot options in the remote betas correct, and spend much of time later studying the python scripts...
| 17:11 | bluez_[m] | i find there are many levels of abstraction layers... like jtag and then mxo2 specific commands and all...was trying to figure out how to implement it in my code
| 17:12 | bluez_[m] | as of now i implemented a simple test read and write to the pic16 which works correctly
| 17:12 | bluez_[m] | and i added some enums to identify different operations on pic16
| 17:12 | RexOrCine | Present
| 17:12 | bluez_[m] | https://github.com/Swaraj1998/axiom-beta-rfdev/blob/master/rfdev.c
| 17:13 | bluez_[m] | here is the code again... but i do need some advice from bertl...
| 17:13 | bluez_[m] | thats it from me!
| 17:13 | Bertl | where does the pic read/write happen in the code?
| 17:13 | se6ast1an | thanks bluez_[m], whats the status of https://lab.apertus.org/T1207 ?
| 17:13 | bluez_[m] | in the probe itself
| 17:13 | Bertl | ah, I see, tx
| 17:13 | bluez_[m] | there is a test read and write back from 0x40
| 17:14 | bluez_[m] | Bertl: also do check out the header file there... the enums are there..
| 17:14 | Bertl | yeah, we might consider integrating those into the PIC16 firmware
| 17:15 | Bertl | good work!
| 17:15 | bluez_[m] | <se6ast1an "thanks bluez_, whats the status "> couldnt start on that ':D... still learning... its not very related to my project but I am still trying to figure it out
| 17:15 | se6ast1an | maybe Bertl can help
| 17:15 | Bertl | maybe :)
| 17:15 | se6ast1an | I assume its just requiring one or two bash commands? :)
| 17:16 | Bertl | no, it's black magic :)
| 17:16 | bluez_[m] | <se6ast1an "I assume its just requiring one "> that is what i have to write? really? i thut something else then ':D

| 17:18 | preetimenghwani[ | hello everyone!
| 17:21 | preetimenghwani[ | so I am working on the test framework, also learnt how to program remote zynq, couldn't work much this week as was sorting out my academic stuffs so that i have only one thing to focus on from now i.e GSoC itself. Will start coding of the pixel remapper in a day or two. Hope that is fine :)
| 17:21 | preetimenghwani[ | thats it from my side thanks!
| 17:22 | Bertl | please make sure the remote setup is working for your development.
| 17:22 | Bertl | thanks for the update!
| 17:22 | preetimenghwani[ | yeah sure!
| 17:24 | se6ast1an | thanks preetimenghwani[!
| 17:24 | se6ast1an | metal_dent[m]: please go ahead
| 17:25 | metal_dent[m] | hi, so last week Bertl explained the icsp and lvp implemented in the beta so i studied the icsp scripts of both beta and remote
| 17:26 | metal_dent[m] | also i compiled and checked out the remote_e and remote_w asm files in radare and compared them with the BL present in the repo
| 17:27 | Bertl | what was the result?
| 17:27 | metal_dent[m] | i read more about the icsp writing as the coding period has started from today and my first task is to flash pic16 (the flow charts in the microchip pic16 pdf are really helpful and explain what i need to do)
| 17:28 | metal_dent[m] | > what was the result?
| 17:28 | metal_dent[m] | the remote_w is almost similar to the one we have in repo (not same as the latter one has some problem)
| 17:29 | metal_dent[m] | and remote_e has less information as BAndiT1983 said it has less to do atm
| 17:29 | metal_dent[m] | that's it from my side!
| 17:30 | se6ast1an | many thanks!
| 17:30 | se6ast1an | whats the current status of https://github.com/apertus-open-source-cinema/AXIOM-Remote/pull/17 ?
| 17:31 | metal_dent[m] | i kinda forgot about that as i shifted my focus to my project but will soon get to that
| 17:31 | se6ast1an | great, thanks
| 17:32 | se6ast1an | megora, please share your report
| 17:32 | megora | Thanks, se6ast1an. Hello everybody!
| 17:33 | megora | So far I started building the very skeleton of the eMMC plugin firmware project. Initially I plan it to initialize single eMMC, perform simple writing and reading back of limited bunch of data.
| 17:33 | megora | Also this initial version will help me testing theremote FPGA flashing process.
| 17:34 | megora | That's all from my side so far.
| 17:34 | se6ast1an | great, thanks!
| 17:34 | se6ast1an | I am happy to forward panintended's message as he cant attend currently:
| 17:34 | se6ast1an | <panintended> I'm afraid I don't have any substantial update on my tasks this week.
| 17:34 | se6ast1an | <panintended> I've had three orphan kittens I was fostering that have kept me busy, even had to take some time off of work. Let me know if you want to adopt one ;)
| 17:34 | Bertl | megora: okay, also please make sure the remote setup is suitable and complete for your purposes
| 17:35 | megora | Bertl, of course, thanks.
| 17:35 | se6ast1an | Quick update from my side, small side project was visiting the mechanical concept of the AXIOM Micro R3 which is now envisioned to consist of a single 3d printed part connecting the image sensor board and a C/CS mount adapter ring together, the base will have a 1/4-20 thread for a tripod mount. A small UV/IR filter can be glued into this 3d print part.
| 17:36 | se6ast1an | But the concept of using a larger image sensor board for all image sensor and swapping this 3d printed part also means larger image sensors and different lens mounts are possible. Up to APS-C/Super35 as I used the CMV12000 for reference (this is not planned):
| 17:36 | se6ast1an | https://cloud.apertus.org/index.php/apps/gallery/s/PGHsr9PjkaxLoJC
| 17:36 | Bertl | nice
| 17:36 | se6ast1an | its a holiday today in most european countries so I assume BAndiT1983|away anuejn and vup are not here currently
| 17:37 | se6ast1an | I know that BAndiT1983|away made significiant progress with the PCB panel creation (https://lab.apertus.org/T1198) but maybe we have to postpone a report until next week
| 17:38 | se6ast1an | Bertl: maybe you can also share some insight into the HDMI debugging you and vup did?
| 17:38 | se6ast1an | done from my side
| 17:38 | Bertl | yep, will do
| 17:38 | Bertl | why not start with that ...
| 17:39 | Bertl | we have expanded the remote setup over the last week to contain not only the bits an pieces required for our students, but also some gimmicks and gadgets to play with ourselves
| 17:40 | Bertl | among those were two CamLink4K adapters connected to the ZBox, one originally attached to a RaspberryPi and the other to the Beta B HDMI plugin module
| 17:40 | Bertl | the idea was to compare the received values (original firmware on the CamLink4k) between a working (RPi) and our (failing) signal
| 17:41 | se6ast1an | why failing?
| 17:41 | Bertl | well, we didn't know why it failed
| 17:41 | Bertl | we simply didn't get any image from the Beta
| 17:42 | Bertl | but thanks to the extensive provisioning done by the Elgato folks, we already have all the necessary tools in place to read out the HDMI receiver registers on the CamLink4K with original firmware
| 17:42 | se6ast1an | to clarify, the Beta HDMI output is working but so far not with the CamLink4K right?
| 17:43 | Bertl | correct, it works up to 1080p60 (even higher) on a normal PC monitor
| 17:43 | Bertl | but we had no luck even getting low resolutions and framerates working on the CamLink4K
| 17:43 | se6ast1an | understood
| 17:44 | Bertl | now inspecting the registers in detail provided some clues, but it basically boiled down to "The HDMI chip doesn't understand our image"
| 17:45 | Bertl | note that the CamLink4K works just fine with other sources as long as they provide one of the supported resolutions/framerates
| 17:45 | Bertl | so, we finally concluded that there most be something wrong/off in the HDMI we are generating
| 17:46 | Bertl | the next idea here was to use a different HDMI generator on the Zynq to test with
| 17:47 | Bertl | as there are no (to us known) HDMI demos or similar for the MicroZed, we simply decided to integrate a Zybo board into the test setup as well
| 17:47 | Bertl | the advantage here is that the Zybo features an HDMI output (and input) very similar to our setup (just without the redriver chip)
| 17:48 | Bertl | and more importantly, there is a Demo Application from Digilent (the Zybo manufacturere) which does HDMI out
| 17:48 | Bertl | so it sounded like a straight forward approach to us
| 17:49 | Bertl | little did we know that building the Zybo demo would turn out a minor nightmare
| 17:49 | Bertl | first, the demo is not available as SD card image or similar, only as Vivado/SDK project
| 17:50 | Bertl | then, because those demos do not get updated very often, and Vivado is basically incompatible across versions, we had to use Vivado 2016.4
| 17:51 | Bertl | this in turn required download (several hours) of huge software packages (Xilinx) to install the ancient 2016 version of Vivado and the SDK
| 17:51 | Bertl | all this just to figure out that it would not run on a recent OS :)
| 17:52 | Bertl | so we also had to create a container running centos 6.8 to be able to get the Vivado tools working and additionally guess and install a bunch of unusual packages to actually make it work
| 17:53 | Bertl | horray to proprietary products and their obsolesence!
| 17:53 | Bertl | anyway, after we finally managed to build the demo, we found out that it also didn't work at 1080p60
| 17:53 | Bertl | but, and that was quite important, it worked just fine at a lower resolution
| 17:54 | Bertl | we adapted the demo to use 1080p30 and that worked fine though
| 17:55 | Bertl | so we also tried to reduce the clock rate further on our signal and at 15FPS we got an image with a lot of sync problems
| 17:55 | Bertl | this led to what we should have thought about in the first place (with the good SHOGUN)
| 17:56 | Bertl | we tried to adjust the sync like we did for the Shogun and suddenly we got an image, even at 1080p60
| 17:56 | Bertl | so the conclusion so far is that there is something wrong with the way we generate the sync signals
| 17:57 | Bertl | but this needs some more investigations and we are planning to look at the raw HDMI data to figure out the differences between a good and a bad signal
| 17:57 | se6ast1an | would a known working hdmi source device (non open) be of any help? like a commercial camcorder
| 17:58 | Bertl | currently no, as we can't look at the data
| 17:58 | se6ast1an | right
| 17:58 | Bertl | but once we have a way to do so (in panning) it will
| 17:58 | se6ast1an | ok
| 17:58 | Bertl | note that we also have the 1080p60 signal from the RPi
| 17:58 | Bertl | which can be considered a 'good' HDMI signal
| 18:00 | Bertl | besides the HDMI stuff, I've also been working on the remote for the remote
| 18:00 | Bertl | which turned out to have a bunch of unexpected issues
| 18:01 | Bertl | the first PCB I populated for the remote control shield was defective, i.e. had shorts on basically all the output ports
| 18:01 | Bertl | so it was replaced by a new one, only to find out that the FPCs on that one didn't make contact to the FFC
| 18:01 | Bertl | (connectors to flat cables)
| 18:02 | Bertl | so I had to replace those as well, but after that and some testing, it all seems to work now
| 18:02 | Bertl | just needs some gateware and probably some software to utilize it
| 18:02 | Bertl | I also added a jtag adapter to Beta-B to allow for remote debugging
| 18:03 | Bertl | and improved the web cam setup so that we now have an h264 compressed stream in addition to the mjpeg one
| 18:03 | Bertl | a bunch of scripts were added as well to remotely control everything and to query the current status
| 18:04 | Bertl | I think we can now slowly start documenting the setup
| 18:04 | se6ast1an | great!
| 18:04 | se6ast1an | I will coordinate that
| 18:04 | Bertl | some testing was done on the ultra-96 but nothing worth mentioning so far
| 18:05 | Bertl | guess that's it from my side for this week?
| 18:07 | se6ast1an | great, many thanks!
| 18:07 | se6ast1an | anyone else want to share anything?
| 18:09 | se6ast1an | then thanks everyone for attending and sharing!
| 18:09 | se6ast1an | meeting concluded!
