morning folks!
16:27
intracube
heh, 'morning'

I have a question for anyone who knows about debayering;
16:32
intracube
if you have a standard RGB sensor and are shooting a monochromatic scene, could the debayering process make use of the different positions of the RGB sensels to create a genuinely higher resolution image?
16:33
danieel
that is done always, as the debayer resolution is the resolution of the sensor. next?
16:33
intracube
assuming the scene is the correct colour temperature and fills the RGB sensels equally
16:36
intracube
danieel: can the correct layout for the sensor always be derived? as in some sensors are:
16:36
intracube
RGRGRG
16:36
intracube
BGBGBG
16:36
intracube
and others might be:
16:36
intracube
RGRGRG
16:36
danieel
there are 4 layout
16:36
intracube
GBGBGB
16:36
intracube
offset greens
16:37
danieel
greens are always offset, never next to each other
16:37
intracube
and don't Sony have some diagonal sensor design?
16:37
danieel
it is practically same
16:38

that is for HDR :)

17:41
intracube
would there not be much difference in sharpness between the colour and BW alternatives of the Axiom sensors?
17:41
danieel
sharpness should be the same, sensitivity will be different
17:42
danieel
assuming the mono sensor is achromatic... lookup the QE curves
17:46
intracube
thanks danieel
17:51
danieel
in theory the bayer pattern one could be sharper (or differently unsharp)
17:52
danieel
in case of "poor" lens, which visibly separate/shift the colors (eg at edge of image)
18:23
intracube
yep
18:23
intracube
quite a few advantages of shooting in colour even if the final product is going to be BW
18:48
danieel
of course, simulation of color filters to change the distribution curve is easy if you shoot in color
